ECO JOURNAL---->Julian

Found this the other day while gardening. At first glance it appeared to be just a regular earth worm, but as i got closer i noticed it had a flat bottom and six tiny legs at the front. When it comes to identifying this beauty i'm quite certain it's the larvae stage of the Wheat Beetle, more commonly known as a wireworm. It's mostly found in North America and is commonly seen in Canada.

  1. Interesting find
    Post the links with credit that you used for identification. Does it feed on wheat? If so there is no wheat in this location. What is it living on?

  2. http://eol.org/pages/1173705/overview <-----This is where i found the diagram and the location of the wireworm. The term 'Wheat' Beetle is just a sub-species of the Click Beetle. In the larvae form it typically eats the roots of larger vegetation growing above them. Certain types of Wireworms can be considered pests as they destroy the root system of any plant and they are quite resilient from any pesticides.
